So what is Letters Unite all about?

Letters Unite will launch on 10 10 10 to co-incide with International Literacy Day. Our objective, in conjunction with Unesco and the UN, is to raise $1 million dollars to improve literacy rates Worldwide.
Letters Unite is a global art project that seeks to represent the cities we live in, with imagery of the words we see in our everday lives.

From street signs, to advertising, to shop keepers signage and even graffiti, we are surrounded by the written word. Letters are the tools of communication that bind us together, the backbone of literacy, the cornerstone of society - Letters Unite.

We want you to picture your city in words, to photograph your walk to work or school, your neighbourhood, your street, your village. We want to see your world, your words, your life.

Letters Unite is looking for photographers and writers from across the globe to register their interest in this historic project. We are looking to attract thousands of passionate people to take to their city streets and capture the words that surround them in their every day lives. If you don't have a cameera, you can submit stories about your city instead.

We aim to raise our target of $1 million dollars by selling coffee table art books of the imagery collected here. Each city will have it's own book and will include your own photography and your own stories.

774 million adults lack minimum literacy skills; one in five adults is still not literate and two-thirds of them are women; 75 million children are out-of-school and many more attend irregularly or drop out.
